Marjan has spent much of his musical life studying, performing and writing about Chopin and his mazurkas in particular. Chopin was his most prolific in this genre having composed some 58 mazurkas. Recently, Marjan presented a seminar at the Manhattan School of Music on the mazurkas including performance examples, the history behind these works, different styles and interpretive options.

Chopin Mazurkas Workshop

Marjan Kiepura recently released this new workshop on Frederic Chopin's mazurkas. In this video, Marjan covers the three types of mazurkas - Kujawiak, Mazur and Oberek - and the special rhythms and accents. Performance options are covered. Recorded at The Manhattan School of Music.

Workshop on Mazurka Op. 17, No. 4

Pianist Marjan Kiepura presents a tutorial on Frederic Chopin's iconic Mazurka Op. 17, No. 4 in A minor. There are three types of Mazurkas: Kuyawiak which is slower, the Mazur has a livelier tempo and the faster Oberek. This Mazurka is a supreme example of a Kuyawiak. Here, Marjan Kiepura offers a historic background and interpretive suggestions, after many years of performing this work. This amazing Mazurka has modernistic elements which was ahead of its time.
